Scott NCUACS 87/8/99 SECTION F RADIO AND TELEVISION F.1-F.251 Scott began working as a radio broadcaster for the BBC in the 1930s, giving talks on natural history and sporting subjects and later commentating on events such as the marriage of the future Queen Elizabeth II in 1947. For twenty years from its first broadcast in 1946 he was a regular member of the panel of Nature Parliament, a monthly feature on Children’s Hour. In the late 1940s he also began contributing to The Naturalist and Birds in Britain, both produced by Desmond Hawkins in the Bristol studios which became the home of the BBC’s Natural History Unit. In 1955 Scott’s television career began with the launch of the BBC’s Look series, which became Faraway Look in 1957, and he appeared on it regularly until 1970. In 1971 he became a director of Survival Anglia, which was controlled by his friend Lord Buxton, and began presenting commentaries for Anglia Television’s series Survival. The papers in this section, chiefly consisting of correspondence and scripts, outlines of programmes, reflect all aspects of Scott’s work for the BBC and Anglia Television Ltd over some fifty years of involvement in broadcasting. There is also a small body of material relating to broadcasting work which he performed for other organisations. etc F.199-F.240 F.241-F.251 F.1-F.198 ANGLIA TELEVISION LTD BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION (BBC) For papers relating to radio and television interviews given by Scott see Section A.
